Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has called on his side to bounce back against Birmingham City after they fell to defeat against Bristol City on Saturday.

The loss ended a four-game winning streak for the Blades and whilst the performance wasn't too bad, they weren't as ruthless as they have been.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star, Wilder wanted his side to find a consistency that would allow them to maintain a promotion push:

"We talk about being consistent in performance and that steps into consistency in results, and if we can't win the game then we don't get beat and we walk away with a draw."

The former Oxford boss wants that to begin with Wednesday's game against Birmingham City at Bramall Lane, with Blues yet to win a game this season:

"We ask for a reaction from the players, not just for themselves and me and the staff but for the supporters, too. The games come up thick and fast, and we're not in crisis talks... the players know they're playing well enough, but they know we're here to win."

A late Marley Watkins goal was the difference between the sides at Ashton Gate on Saturday, although the Blades remain in the play-offs and just three points behind league leaders Leeds.

The Verdict

This is a good response from Wilder. He knows his side were somewhat unfortunate to lose on Saturday, but they need to be more resilient at times.

Nevertheless, it's still been a good start to the season and the manager will be pleased with how his side are looking.

Now, it's down to the players to show that ruthless edge and pick up all three points against Birmingham in what will be a tough game, despite their league position.
