Chris Wilder gives important Sheffield United update ahead of Millwall clash

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has confirmed that midfielder Ryan Leonard will not be returning to the club at any point this season and is eligible to play when the two sides clash this weekend, reported James Shield

Leonard only moved to Bramall Lane in January, signing from Southend United for £700,000, but had fallen down the pecking order over the summer.

The United boss explained that the situation is similar to that of Ollie Norwood in that there are agreements in place for the player to move permanently in January.

Shield took to Twitter to report the news from Wilder’s pre-match press conference:

Millwall are badly in need of a win on Saturday having lost five out of their last six league matches, leaving them in 22nd place going into the clash.

They have not won since the third day of the season and will struggle to find a way past an impressive Sheffield United who currently sit fourth in the league.

Wilder’s side have lost just once in their last five league matches, winning three of them, making them a feared team to face this season.

The verdict

Some fans may have disagreed with the move at the time, but United really have not missed Leonard at all.

Norwood and Duffy have done a brilliant job in central midfield and will undoubtedly do the same in the clash at the Den on Saturday.
