Speaking to the Sheffield Star, Chris Wilder has insisted that his Sheffield United side will continue to push to see how far they can go in the Sky Bet Championship.
The Blades have adapted well to life back in the Championship, and heading into October’s fixtures, are sitting in third place, with only Cardiff City and Wolverhampton Wanderers ahead of them.
Wilder has two promotions in his last two seasons, helping Northampton Town out of League Two during the 2015/16 campaign, before achieving promotion from League One with the Blades last season.
The 50-year-old has now warned the Championship that his Sheffield United side will continue to push, to see how far they can go this season, he said: “We’ll keep going for it.
“We know what the expectations are but I don’t like to do ‘just’ consolidation. I, we, want to keep pushing on as far as we can and see where it takes us.
“We’ll just take it on a game by game basis and see what happens.”
The Blades would’ve entered last week’s international break inside the automatic promotion places, had Wilder’s side not suffered a frustrating defeat against Nottingham Forest last time out.
The Championship returns this coming weekend, with Sheffield United facing another month that will test their promotion credentials.
Wilder’s side face Ipswich Town on Saturday at Bramall Lane, before entertaining Reading the following week.
October then finishes with tough back-to-back away fixtures against Leeds United and Queens Park Rangers.
Wilder is a promotion expert, and despite never leading a team to the Premier League, he certainly knows how to handle the pressure of a push for promotion.
The Blades have had a magnificent start, and Wilder is doing a good job of keeping expectations low in South Yorkshire, claiming his side will look to go as far as they can.
So far, it looks like the Blades could compete for another promotion, but the coming month is set to hand them a major test, with some tricky fixtures.
