Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has admitted he will have to move players on if he brings in the players he wants to help the Blades to the Premier League.

The Yorkshire club have made one signing so far this summer with Dean Henderson joining on loan from Manchester United.

And, further arrivals are expected in the coming weeks. Yet, Wilder does not want to work with a big squad and admits he will have to shift players on who have done well for the club in the past.

"We want to keep the numbers right. If people come in, that always means some others leave. Anyone who does go will, I believe, leave with a heavy heart. But we have to do what’s right by us and by them," he told the Sheffield Star.

One example of this was when midfielder Samir Carruthers left for Oxford earlier in the week but Wilder insisted it's part and parcel of the game. "That’s the way it is. That’s football, the way it has to be."

The Verdict

Blades fans will be glad to hear that Wilder is prepared to make some big, and potentially tough, decisions in order to improve the side.

Sheffield United have enjoyed a lot of success in recent seasons and the players deserve credit for that but they need to look to go to the next level now.

Clearly, Wilder recognises that and will give players a chance but if they don't deliver they will be left behind as the club looks to push on.
