Sheffield United and Leeds clash in a huge game this weekend, both sides hunting a Championship promotion and eager to bag all three points.

The match at Bramall Lane is sure to be the clash of the weekend and if history is anything to go by, Sheffield United may have the upper hand.

They won 2-1 at Leeds last season in a televised Friday night game, courtesy of goals from David Brooks and Billy Sharp. However, Blades boss Chris Wilder doesn't believe there's any value in looking to the past, especially with the changes both clubs have experienced.

“We played really well last year at Elland Road in front of nearly 40,000 live on the TV and did extremely well to win both games," he was quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post. "They will not want to think about that and we should not really."

He said that despite the fine win, a year has passed and the changes at Leeds United mean his side face an altogether different prospect this weekend.

“They have a new manager, new ideas and a new direction added to what was already a really talented group to start with. He (Bielsa) is not going to be wracking it (last season) all up.”

Leeds are current second, just one point behind leaders Norwich City, whilst the Blades are lurking in fifth, three points away from the Canaries but knowing a win could take them top on goal difference.

The Verdict

There's far too much looking backwards and assessing things based on past matches, but it means nothing. Getting caught up in history is a fallacy and this game is between two markedly different sides to that of last season.

It's sure to be interesting and the winner could well give themselves the boost they need to move into the festive period as genuine Premier League candidates.
