Huddersfield Town and Preston North End have been handed an update on Terence Kongolo and Ben Davies, with Sheffield United boss, Chris Wilder, revealing he won’t be signing either today.

Sheffield United’s focus in the recent weeks has been on signing a centre-back. Jack O’Connell has been injured and is facing the majority of the season on the sidelines.

Given the centre-back’s importance to Wilder, there was interest in other defenders.

Quiz: Do Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United have these 10 things in common?

Kongolo of Huddersfield was an option, plus there had been speculation surrounding Davies at Preston.

However, Wilder has ruled out any incomings at Bramall Lane.

As per James Shield at the Sheffield Star, he said: “The players who are in the building are the ones we will be going with. They are the players who will take us through to January.”

The Blades have started the Premier League season with four straight defeats.

In terms of Kongolo, he’s yet to feature for Huddersfield due to injury. Davies has played regularly for Preston, helping Alex Neil’s side to four points from the opening four games of the Championship season.

The Verdict

This is slightly surprising given the fact that Wilder is short of such a key player.

However, this domestic window feels a little rushed and Wilder isn’t the type of manager to panic and buy a player for the sake of it.

January really isn’t that far away and if results at Bramall Lane don’t pick up, we could see some movement in the winter.
