Harry Redknapp’s thirteen summer signings certainly proved unlucky for some, with striker Clayton Donaldson being shown the exit in the final hours of the summer transfer window.

On a day when former Brentford players were arriving in floods, it was a former Brentford player on his way out, and Donaldson has moved north to Yorkshire, linking up with Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United.

The Blades have enjoyed a solid start to the season, amassing nine points from the opening five encounters, and another striker was exactly what the club needed heading into the run-up to the Christmas fixtures.

Only four-goal man Billy Sharp has found his feet at this level, with Ched Evans and Leon Clarke struggling to adjust to the demands of second tier football.

The addition of Donaldson will solve this crisis.

The 33-year-old arrives at Bramall Lane with an abundance of Football League experience, and his long spell in the Championship with the Bees and the Blues will certainly serve Wilder’s side well this year.

Born in Bradford, Donaldson’s return to Yorkshire is something of a homecoming, and the player will hope to continue his goalscoring form in his county of birth.

The player has proven prolific wherever he has been, with 176 career league goals to his name, and despite his age creeping in the wrong direction, Donaldson still has the ability to find the back of the net at this level.

Donaldson is a work-horse, and will run himself into the ground for the cause, a trait that will delight his new boss and fans.

Working hard to win the ball from the front, Donaldson and Sharp could form a solid partnership, with Donaldson’s workman-like approach and Sharp’s ability to find the back of the net seemingly a match made in heaven.

The acquisition of the striker is a solid piece of business by Wilder, and fans will be excited to see the player in action after the international break.

Blades fans, are you happy to see Donaldson amongst your ranks this season?
