Sheffield United new signing Oliver Norwood is set to be given his debut for the Blades in tomorrow night’s clash against Hull City, the day after joining from Brighton and Hove Albion.

In a tweet from sports editor at BBC Sheffield Andy Giddings, Chris Wilder states his intentions to include the 27-year-old new signing right away.

The tweet stated: “#SUFC boss CW says Oliver Norwood will be involved tomorrow v Hull City”.

The midfielder arrived at Bramall Lane on a loan deal, which will reportedly become permanent in January, for an undisclosed fee.

Norwood spent last season on loan at Cravan Cottage, where he scored five goals in his 41 appearances for Fulham, helping them gain promotion to the Premier League.

The Blades will face a tough battle in tomorrow night’s Football League Cup match against fellow Championship side Hull City, who are coming off the back of a 1-1 draw at Hillsborough.

Chris Wilder’s side picked up their first points of the season at the weekend, as they came away 2-1 winners against Queens Park Rangers, and will be hoping that Norwood can help them achieve back to back victories.

The Verdict

Oliver Norwood is certainly a gifted player still with plenty of potential to prove, but dropping him the squad the day after his arrival is somewhat of a risk.

It will take time for the 27-year-old to settle into the side and playing him right away could have a detrimental effect on the midfielder in the long run.

Whilst Wilder is looking to the middle man for an immediate impact, perhaps waiting a week or two would be better for both parties.
