Sheffield United head into the international break in third position in the Championship after a brilliant return to the second tier.

Given their performances over recent weeks, all the Blades players deserve credit, but boss Chris Wilder was keen to point out one of the more unsung heroes.

Chris Basham has played in defence for the majority of his United career but has moved into midfield in recent weeks, and his manager is delighted with his response.

Bash will play anywhere for this club and he's a damn good footballer. The most important thing for him is the team. Seriously, players like that are gold dust for managers. You can't have enough people with that type of attitude,” he told the Sheffield Star.

Even though the Blades were defeated last time out at Nottingham Forest, Wilder was proud of their performance and has revealed they've had to be more tactically flexible this season.

Last year, with all due respect to the teams in League One, we could turn up knowing 'this is how we play'”. But, given the difference in the standard of the competition this year, we've got to be a little but more aware.”

The Verdict

The spirit and togetherness of the Sheffield United team is a big reason for their success and players like Chris Basham are an example of that.

He is willing to step into a different position and do a job, whether it's to nullify the opposition or to bring in a different player.

Of course, that work ethic is combined with some players of real quality which makes the Blades a very dangerous side this season.
