Norwich City legend Chris Sutton is concerned about the Canaries' attack heading into the new season.

The 2022/23 Championship campaign gets underway this weekend, and to start, Norwich travel to the Welsh capital to face Cardiff City.

Following the club's 2-0 defeat to Celtic on Saturday, though, Chris Sutton is feeling pessimistic about one particular area heading into the weekend.

In his Pink Un column, Sutton wrote: "I get the sense that Norwich supporters are concerned by what they’ve seen, after Saturday’s game at Celtic – I share those worries."

"As an attacking unit, they don’t look ready.

"That concern is probably exaggerated by the fact this isn’t a new problem. Last season, Norwich were Teemu Pukki or bust in terms of goal scoring. Yet, the personnel hasn’t changed, and service to the Finn was non-existent at Celtic Park.

"Pukki hasn’t changed. He is still making runs and attempting to get himself into goal-scoring situations, the current issue is that where he goes, the ball isn’t following."

Following the departure of Emi Buendia last summer, creativity has certainly been a problem for the Canaries.

Although they have retained their key players following relegation, the one big void from the side that won the league in 2020/21 is the absence of the Argentinian.

In that campaign, for example, Buendia scored 15 goals and registered an even more impressive 17 assists.

The Verdict

You do question where the creativity is going to come from for Norwich City this season.

Todd Cantwell remains on the books, but can he overcome a difficult season last term and try to reach new heights in terms of direct goal contributions?

Gabriel Sara has been signed, but from what you read, he is a more dynamic, box-to-box type midfielder, rather than solely an attacking, creative, threat.

We know that Teemu Pukki will score goals for fun at this level if provided with chances, what Norwich must unearth is who it is that is going to create those chances for their star forward.
