Former Norwich City striker Chris Sutton has claimed that now is the time for Canaries forward Adam Idah to realise his potential at the club.

Idah came through the youth ranks at the club, and has notched up 53 appearances for the Canaries so far.

In those matches though, he has scored just seven goals so far, failing to live up to the full potential many believe he has.

Now, speaking following Norwich's relegation to the Championship, Sutton believes a drop to the second-tier could help the Republic of Ireland international make a real mark at the club.

"In the Championship, you would hope that the opportunity to play regularly and in a senior role will come for him." Sutton wrote in the Eastern Daily Press.

"Then it is down to him to snatch it with both hands.

"There is only so long that you can be bracketed as someone with potential, eventually, you have to come to the fore and prove that you can realise it. This cannot be another season where he is on the cusp of the team and playing second fiddle. He has to make his mark."

Sutton continued: "Idah isn't a new name, but he could quite plausibly provide the X Factor that Norwich need next season.

"He needs to do it for himself, more than anything.

"He is at an age where he will be approaching his peak physical condition and will have a better understanding of his own game but eventually, it needs to click for him."

The Verdict

Whilst there is more to come from Idah, I would not say that this season is make or break for him.

For example, if he has another average campaign, it is not the end of his career, or indeed Norwich City career.

Having said that, next season does bring a big chance for the Republic of Ireland international to really show his capabilities.

You would imagine that Norwich will once again compete at the sharp end of the division, which means Idah has no excuses if he cannot find some goalscoring form in 2022/23.
