Sunderland forward Chris Maguire has revealed scoring a hat-trick at the Stadium of Light earlier this season is one of two standout moments for him since he joined the club.

The versatile attacker signed for the Wearside outfit at the start of the previous campaign and he has been an important player since arriving.

Having scored eight goals under Jack Ross, Maguire is already on ten for the league this season, with three of those coming in the win against Wimbledon back in August.

And, when asked by a fan in a Twitter Q&A on what his favourite memories for the club are, the Scotsman responded with that and also picked a game from last season when he walked out with his children.

"I've got quite a lot of good memories. The two that stand out at the moment would be my hat-trick that I scored earlier in the season and last year walking out before the match with my kids as mascots. That was a proud moment for me."

Providing the season resumes, Maguire is sure to play a big part as Phil Parkinson's men look to secure a top six finish as a minimum.

The verdict

As an attacking player it's no surprise to see that Maguire has picked the game when he scored a hat-trick. Like every player in the final third, he is judged on goals and assists and he delivered for Sunderland big time that day.

From a personal perspective, it clearly meant a lot for him to have his kids as mascots and that's something that he can look back at fondly.

Of course, the challenge is to make more positive memories when the football returns and you would imagine taking Sunderland back to the Championship would top the lot.
