Nottingham Forest manager Chris Hughton has told the Nottingham Post that he is expecting it to be a busy summer for the club as the transfer window gets closer to opening.

With their Sky Bet Championship status now secured, Hughton is planning ahead with the upcoming window and pre-season in mind as he looks to overhaul a portion of his current squad after what has been a disappointing campaign by all accounts.

Several players are set to leave as their loans finish, whilst others have contracts which need to be sorted as the Reds begin to get their house in order on Trentside ahead of what they expect to be a much improved performance on the field of play next term.

Speaking about the summer window, Hughton was quick to state the following:

“It will be a busy summer.

“There are two things, one is how much business we do - that you never know. But it will be busy, because that’s normal and we are looking to bring players in.

“We have been spending a lot of time over the last few weeks looking at players, looking at videos, seeing who’s available, who might be available and who might be available on loan.”

Since taking on the job in October last year, Hughton has brought in a total of seven new players to the club and will no doubt be looking forward to having a whole summer to wheel and deal in the market.

The Verdict

It's clear that an overhaul is needed this summer after the shortcomings of the current campaign and it will certainly be interesting to see what talent the club can attract under Hughton.

The loan market will once again present a potentially fruitful option and there are sure to be some gems that could come in from the Premier League.

Whilst Forest also have the likes of Brennan Johnson to come back from his loan spell at Lincoln City, which will only add to their creative options in the final third.

It will certainly be a summer of change at the City Ground and from hearing Hughton's comments, it appears there will be a lot of it.
