Chris Hughton has confirmed that he will look to strengthen his Nottingham Forest squad in the January transfer window.

Forest brought in 14 new players over the course of the summer, as the club looked to put last season's play-off capitulation behind them.

Only one of those players was brought in by Hughton, though, who arrived in early October before signing Anthony Knockaert on loan.

Warburton? Karanka? Who was the Nottingham Forest manager when each of these 15 Forest moments happened?

Hughton, then, had to walk into a club which has a first-team squad consisting of over 30 players, and is yet to get to grips with his squad.

Forest have endured a dismal start to the season and sit 21st in the Championship, so further additions will be needed in January.

Speaking to the Athletic, Hughton confirmed that he will look to strengthen his squad in January.

The manager also revealed that some players will leave the club, whether that be on loan or on a permanent basis.

"I think you have to. I think there is an opportunity there in January. I think you are right in one sense — in that having brought in so many players already over the summer, it is very much not going to be a wholesale project but I think you do have to look at where you can tweak things a little bit.

“When we have everyone fit, we do have quite a large squad. We have to look to get the best value out of that squad but we also want to do as well as we can and, if there is an area where you can improve, where you might be able to strengthen a little bit, then you have to look at that.

“That might mean a couple of lads going out on loan, perhaps. Or a couple moving on.”

The Verdict

I think the club need to focus more on departures rather than incomings first and foremost.

They already have a huge number of players on the books, so it's financially unhealthy to keep that many players at the club.

There's also the small matter of the 25-man squad, so will he even have the capacity to bring in players?

It's hard to pinpoint an exact area of the pitch where Forest need to strengthen, but you have to see that new additions are much-needed.
