Nottingham Forest manager Chris Hughton has revealed his frustration over the club's failed move for West Brom winger Kamil Grosicki.

The two clubs had agreed a deal for Grosicki on the final day of the summer transfer window, but after the EFL disputed whether or not Forest had submitted the required paperwork in time, a hearing ruled against allowing the Championship club to complete the signing of the winger.

Now it seems as though Hughton is far from happy with the decision, even if it is one that he will now accept going forward.

Speaking about missing out on the signing of Grosicki following his side's 1-0 defeat at Middlesbrough on Saturday, Hughton told the Nottinghamshire Post: “It’s hugely disappointing. But as manager, all you can do is find out what the decision is and then work with what you’ve got.

“If I’m looking at the group of players that I’ve got and the squad that I’ve got, it’s a squad that I was working with before and will continue to work with.”

Discussing the possibility of making a fresh attempt to sign Grosicki when the transfer window reopens in January, Hughton added: “In every window, every manager and every team will look at the options they’ve got - players you can bring in and players who haven’t played so much.
"That’s the opportunity for every club. But at this moment, it’s very much about getting results."

Grosicki, who has made 15 appearances and scored once for West Brom since joining from Hull back in January, is out of contract at The Hawthorns at the end of this season.

The Verdict

You can certainly understand Hughton's disappointment at missing out on a deal for Grosicki here.

The Polish international has regularly demonstrated just how good he is at Championship level for Hull and West Brom, meaning he could have been a big asset for Forest this season.

Indeed, the fact that they missed out on him by such a fine margin will only make this sting further, but it could be argued that there was plenty of time over the summer for them to get this signing over the line.

However, you can understand why Hughton might be reluctant to commit to a fresh attempt to sign Grosicki in January, given there is a chance he will not play much between now and then, meaning he would not be match fit on his arrival at The City Ground, and the time it would take to get him to point could risk negating his impact this season.
