Chris Coleman will hope to end Sunderland’s abysmal home record when they face Reading at the Stadium of Light this weekend.

Incredibly, the Black Cats are yet to win a home game in 2017 which includes both Premier League and Championship fixtures. This season they’ve picked up just four points from their nine games and Coleman has revealed his side will be on the front foot trying to end that record.

We’re conceding goals. So what do we do? Do we put 10 men behind the ball for 90 minutes and hope Lewis (Grabban) may grab a goal? I’m not sure that’s the way to go,” he told the Sunderland Echo.

“I think that’s a false sense of security. I think we’ve got to be more positive when we’re in possession. We’ve got to attack and try and score more goals so that if we conceded one at least we’ve scored three.”

One plus point for the Wearside club has been the form of Grabban and the former Wales boss acknowledged how key the 10-goal man is. “Lewis is offering himself to the cause by scoring goals, he keeps on scoring which is a huge positive.”

The Verdict

This is exactly what Sunderland fans will want to hear. Confidence has to be high after that vital win at Burton Albion and they have to play with a real intensity against Reading.

If Coleman is going to get the side out of this mess then changing that ridiculous home form is a necessity.

The Stadium of Light will be rocking for his first game and whilst the players will be nervous, the different atmosphere around the place could be just what they need to secure that pivotal first home win in 2017.
