Sunderland produced a resilient display to stop league leaders Wolves and leave Molineux with a precious point on Saturday.

Chris Coleman's men had little of the ball and very few attacking opportunities, but the Black Cats managed to restrict the Championship's top scorers to no real clear cut chances. Plus, they had to play the final 30 minutes with ten men after Lee Cattermole was sent off.

And, speaking to the Sunderland Echo the former Wales manager was pleased with his side and wanted them to use this as a platform to get out the relegation zone. "The early signs are okay. It’s game by game, step by step, and we have got to keep building. It’s all about what happens on the training ground."

"It’s resilience, diligence, all those nasty words, accountability, and the better you get at those things, the better results you get. I haven’t got a magical wand but I know how to motivate and organise a team."

The Black Cats are back in action against Fulham this weekend as they look for their first win at the Stadium of Light in 2017.

The Verdict

It wasn't pretty but Sunderland fans will be pleased to see their side show a determination and spirit that has been missing for the past few years.

For that, credit must go to Chris Coleman and you can already see that his hard work is paying off.

There's still a long way to go but the signs are extremely promising. A point at Wolves will give the side added belief and now everyone will be focused on ending their embarrassing home record.
