Sunderland manager Chris Coleman has admitted and conceded that the club are desperate to sign new strikers this week, following their hefty 4-0 defeat at Cardiff City this afternoon.

In a report by the Sunderland Echo, the former Wales manager made the admission after seeing his side draw another blank in front of goal, and Coleman will be keen to delve into the market this week and strengthen his options as he looks to avoid relegation to League One.

Coleman admitted that while he has been impressed with the performances of youngster Josh Maja and fellow striker Joel Asoro, he is keen to bring some offensive talent into the club, especially since losing James Vaughan this week.

Coleman admitted that 'the sooner the better' would be ideal for his club, but also admitted they were 'waiting' patiently until the right sort of deals arise for the club. He also made note of the fact he is waiting to hear back from clubs on the availability of some of his targets, although he did not reveal who he was tracking.

The Black Cats are struggling this season in the Championship and recently saw top scorer Lewis Grabban's loan deal come to an end with the Bournemouth man not expected back in Sunderland any time soon.
