Sunderland manager Chris Coleman has urged his young players Joel Asoro and Josh Maja to sign new contracts with the Black Cats and 'continue to develop' rather than risk getting 'lost in the system'.

Speaking in an interview with the Sunderland Echo, the former Wales manager spoke of contract talks with the pair and insisted the club had tried to act early, but have yet to come to an agreement with any of the players up to now.

Coleman was insistent with his comments that Sunderland is the right place for Maja and Asoro, and pointed out that he is aware of what might be being said in the ears of the pair by agents and other parties invovled with their contract discussions.

Maja and Asoro have come into their own over the last few months despite the Black Cats being confirmed as relegated to League One with last weekend's loss to Burton Albion at the Stadium of Light.

The young pair are highly rated by the club and manager Coleman, and Coleman will be banking on the pair tying themselves to new deals with the club and firing his team back to the Championship at the first attempt next season.

Sunderland fans, do you agree with Coleman? Is he right? Let us know in the comments!
