West Bromwich Albion midfielder Chris Brunt has offered his thoughts on what the future may hold for his career, with the 35-year-old's current contract at the Hawthorns set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

The former Sheffield Wednesday man has been ever present for the club since arriving back in the summer of 2007, notching up an impressive record of over 400 appearances for the Baggies, whilst the versatile midfield player has also plundered 49 goals during his time in the Midlands.

Brunt did however come very close to leaving the club in the January transfer window just gone, with Stoke City seemingly having secured a deal for the veteran before the move fell through at the last minute.

Now, Brunt has spoken out about what the future may hold for him during an interview with the Birmingham Mail, with the 35-year-old stating the following:

"I want to play next season and keep going as long as I can because the thought of having to do something else is a pretty scary one to be honest.

"All I’ve wanted to do since I was six-years-old, kicking a ball against my mums fence, was play football and once that is taken away from you it is a massive reality check."

The Northern Irish midfielder has won promotion with both Sheffield Wednesday and West Brom during his career, whilst the veteran has also won the Midlands club's player of the year award back in the 2008/2009 season.

The Verdict

It seems like only a matter of time before Brunt departs for pastures new in the summer, with his West Brom future seemingly becoming increasingly clear since the events that took place in the January window.

At the age of 35, the midfielder needs to be playing regularly to prolong his playing career, and that could mean a drop down the divisions for the veteran next season.

Given the player's experience in the game, he is bound to not be short of offers of roles as both a player or as a coach as he seeks to continue his career in football.
