Rotherham United forward Chiedozie Ogbene wants to depart the Millers with just hours of the transfer window remaining, Phil Cadden of The Sun has reported.

The Republic of Ireland international, who is the South Yorkshire club's top scorer this season with seven goals in all competitions, has been linked to Swansea City and Millwall earlier on in January, with bids reportedly rejected as they fell short of the hierarchy's valuation.

Middlesbrough were also believed to be in the running at one point, but their interest has since cooled and they have now added Aston Villa youngster Aaron Ramsey to their ranks instead.

Per Cadden's tweet, there is still second tier interest in the 25-year-old, who can operate as a winger, striker or wing-back, but Rotherham are holding out for a fee of £1 million with just five months on the player's contract remaining.

It remains to be seen as to whether anyone meets Ogbene's price-tag with over six hours until the deadline, but he remains keen to complete a move away from the New York Stadium before 11pm.

The Verdict

Unless Ogbene decides to down tools for the rest of the season should he not get his move, then Rotherham would no doubt be happy to keep the Irishman until the end of the season and then lose him for nothing.

Ogbene has proven that he can be a real game-changer at Championship level, and quite frankly it's a surprise that there isn't more interest in his services.

If Rotherham do lose him though, then they aren't exactly well covered out wide if Matt Taylor continues to use a 4-3-3 - Tariqe Fosu has been signed but he and Shane Ferguson could not carry all the load.

That is perhaps where the potential signing of Domingos Quina comes into play from Watford - an attacking midfielder who can also play out wide - and that particular deal could see Ogbene move on, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if Rotherham don't sell him to a divisional rival come 11pm.
