Derby County boss Frank Lampard is a contender to replace under-fire Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge.

That's according to Sky Sports who claim that the Rams manager and Zinedine Zidane have been 'identified as potential replacements' for the Italian by senior figures at the London club.

Sarri's future is in doubt after the Blues crashed out of the FA Cup on Monday, which followed heavy Premier League defeats against Bournemouth and Manchester City.

As well as that, supporters chanted against the manager during the 2-0 defeat to Manchester United.

Lampard would be an extremely popular choice with the fans after his remarkable career at the club, with the 40-year-old Chelsea's all-time top goalscorer.

He is currently in his first managerial role with Derby and has the side competing for a play-off place, whilst they've also impressed in both cup competitions.

The former England international has attracted plaudits for the style of play he wants to adopt too, with a focus on fast, attacking football.

Derby are in action against Millwall tomorrow, where a win would see them move back into the top six.

The Verdict

This is the news that Derby fans will have been fearing and it's got to be a massive worry for all those at the club.

Chelsea will be a huge attraction for Lampard given his history and it's surely his dream job.

Therefore, they will be hoping that nothing comes of this but you can't see Sarri lasting much longer with how things have gone.
