Lewis Baker is poised to return to Chelsea from his loan spell with Leeds, amid reports that he is close to securing a loan deal with Reading for the remainder of the season according to the Daily Mail.

The creative midfielder has made just two starts for Marcelo Bielsa's side so it is no surprise to see Chelsea wanting to recall him early from his loan spell.

Baker has fallen down the pecking order in the Leeds side behind the likes of Mateusz Klich and Jack Clarke in the pecking order which will be hugely frustrating for the on-loan Chelsea man.

His future at Elland Road seems all but over, especially after not being able to force his way into the starting XI, even with the void left by Samuel Saiz who departed the club in favour of a move to Getafe.

Reading are struggling in the Championship this season and are currently sat 23rd in the table, and are five points adrift of safety.

They are in need of a complete overhaul of the current playing squad, and Baker would be a welcome addition to the relegation threatened Royals.

If Baker was to arrive, it would be Jose Gomes' second signing since taking charge of the club, after Ovie Ejaria signed on a season long loan from Liverpool on Tuesday.

The Verdict:

This would be a good signing by Reading.

It adds to their already impressive creativeness in Jose Gomes' side, and if they can find a striker to finish the chances that the likes of Baker will create.

Baker will need to settle into life at the Madejski Stadium as quickly as possible so that he can play a crucial role in firing them out of the bottom three.
