Chelsea will make a move for Jack Butland if Thibaut Courtois leaves Stamford Bridge before the transfer window shuts.

The Belgian keeper is wanted by Real Madrid and the stopper has now gone AWOL as he looks to push through a move to the European champions.

And, according to Sky Sports, if Courtois secures a return to the Spanish capital then the Blues will move for Stoke City's Butland.

Despite suffering relegation with the Potters last season, the England man was one of few to emerge with any credit in what was a tough campaign.

Many had thought he would move on in the summer given that, but no concrete offers came in for the player who then looked set to stay.

That was evident with Gary Rowett picking the 25-year old for yesterday's opener against Leeds United at Elland Road.

Stoke lost the game 3-1 and Butland was at fault for Pablo Hernandez's goal for the Whites, somehow failing to keep his weak shot out.

It now appears that could well be his last game for the club after signing for the Staffordshire side in 2013.

The Verdict

This would be a fantastic move for Jack Butland and will be hoping that he gets the call to move to the Londoners.

Whether he is good enough to replace Courtois, who is recognised as one of the best in the world, will cause debate though.

Stoke will have no chance of persuading him to stay if Chelsea make a firm bid and now it's about negotiating the best fee possible and lining up a new keeper themselves in what could now be a very busy few days for Gary Rowett.
