Aston Villa striker Tammy Abraham may have to return to parent club Chelsea if the injury sustained against Middlesbrough at the weekend is adjudged to be serious enough, report the Birmingham Mail.

Abraham limped off with just under 20 minutes to go at Villa Park and will now be assessed during the upcoming international break.

The 21-year-old, who is supposed to be joining up with the England under-21 squad this week, has already bagged 21 goals in the second-tier this season and Villa will be hoping for the best.

A 3-0 win on Saturday made it five wins on the bounce for Dean Smith’s side, climbing above Derby and Bristol City and into the top-six.

They went into the break two goals to the good, with Anwar El Ghazi opening the scoring with a cool finish before John McGinn scored his third goal in a week to double the advantage.

The Villans remained firmly in control for the rest of proceedings, and Albert Adomah made doubly sure of the three points in the 88th minute.

The verdict

This would be a huge blow for Villa.

The return of Jack Grealish has seriously reignited hopes of promotion with a play-off spot now looking very likely.

Losing another vital player so soon after would be absolutely gutting.
