Izzy Brown has spoken of how his loan spell with Leeds United made him 'doubt himself'.

The Chelsea starlet moved to Elland Road on a season-long loan deal last term, however things didn't quite play out in the way he would have liked.

Brown made just two appearances for Marcelo Bielsa's side as an anterior cruciate ligament injury was followed up by a serious hamstring injury which all-but ended his season.

This term has been notably different for the midfielder who has been a revelation since arriving at Luton Town on loan, where he has racked up six assists in 15 games for the Hatters.

Speaking to Football.London, Brown opened up on how his spell with Leeds United affected his confidence.

He said: "When you’re injured you do really doubt yourself.

"You think, ‘Will I get back to being as good or better than I was before?’ It kept playing on my mind because people say you lose 10% once you do your ACL and you lose your speed and awareness and I was thinking, ‘No I don’t want that to happen to me’.

“This season I am starting to gain confidence, getting assists and playing well and that’s what I want to do. I need to add goals to my game, other than that the confidence is back.”

The verdict

There's no doubting that Izzy Brown is an incredible talent, but things didn't quite work out at Leeds United.

The serious injuries suffered last term all-but ended ended his season at Elland Road which meant that the supporters in west Yorkshire never really got to see the midfielder at his best.

For the player's sake, hopefully a successful season with Luton will see him get his career back on track.
