Aston Villa

Chelsea plotting major bid to seal player agreement with English playmaker

Jack Grealish is attracting a lot of attention due to his exploits with Aston Villa this season, and Chelsea are making a serious play to sign the 22-year-old.

The Blues have given Villa the option of having Grealish on loan for a year as part of their £30 million offer for his services, according to Teamtalk.

He helped guide Villa to a fourth place finish in the regular season, but was unable to get them promoted after putting in an excellent performance in the Championship Play-Off Final where he was one of the best players on the pitch.

Dr Tony Xia gambled on promotion last season, so they have a few financial problems to solve such as cash-flow issues as well as staying within Financial Fair Play regulations, so selling Grealish would help the club substantially, which is why a number of Premier League clubs are interested including Chelsea.

The Verdict

These details make it clear why Chelsea are after him because he is seen as a future prospect rather than someone who can have an instant impact, so the next few seasons are likely to see him loaned out if he joins Chelsea. The Blues have a keen eye for talent, with £30 million seen as a worthwhile risk considering his potential.

Loaning him back to the club could entice Villa because next season is likely to be transitional with a lot of outgoings, so keeping a star player to help ease them through that even on loan would be pivotal. However, Grealish needs to be aware how hard it is to break into the Chelsea first-team, so this might not be the best move for his career.
