Bristol City have confirmed the signing of Chelsea’s Kasey Palmer on loan until the end of the 2018/19 campaign.

Palmer has been across the Championship with Blackburn Rovers during the first-half for the campaign, but it was confirmed by the Ewood Park club this morning that Chelsea were recalling their player.

Now, Bristol City have announced on their official website that Palmer will finish the season at Ashton Gate.

The attacking midfielder, 22, has built up plenty of Championship experience over the years, with the majority of that coming towards the top end of the table.

He helped Huddersfield Town to promotion during the 2016/17 campaign and earned a Premier League loan with the Terriers last season. However, after a disappointing period, Chelsea sent Palmer to Derby County 12 months ago.

At Pride Park, the 22-year-old helped Derby into the play-offs, scoring two goals and registering one assist.

In the summer it was Blackburn’s turn to benefit from the Chelsea youngster’s talents, but Palmer found opportunities limited at Ewood, starting just 10 of the opening 26 Championship fixtures.

He now links up with Lee Johnson’s Robins, who find themselves on an eight-match unbeaten run in the Championship.

The Verdict

This could be exceptional business from Bristol City.

Palmer is one of many Chelsea youngsters floating around the EFL and struggling to really shine but, if Johnson can help him rediscover the form he showed at Huddersfield, this will be brilliant business.

He’s an attacking threat and could give the Robins a great chance of putting pressure on the play-off places.
