There are three key positions that Charlton Athletic should have strengthened in the summer transfer window and they therefore they take priority this month.

The Addicks have added some depth to their forward line by signing Macauley Bonne on a deal until the end of the season.

The former Leyton Orient man may have to bide his time to become a regular starter, with Miles Leaburn asserting himself as the club's first choice number nine in the last month or so, but does improve the depth chart at The Valley.

Left centre-back and left-back are the two positions that remain empty and have been all season, simplifying the remit of the recruitment team in SE7 somewhat in the final ten days of the window.

Here, we have taken a look at two realistic additions the Addicks should make before February 1st and why...

Tayo Edun

Charlton still look like the favourites to bring in Tayo Edun on loan from Blackburn Rovers this month, with the South London Press believing that a move is on the cards.

The 24-year-old has not picked up as much second tier action as he did last term, in part due to the fitness of Harry Pickering.

The Addicks do not have a single left-footed defender at the club, but Steven Sessegnon has slotted in well at left back this term.

The 22-year-old has been managing a knee problem all season and therefore he cannot be relied upon on in every match.

It is not that healthy to have both of your left-backs on loan at the club, but with the Addicks yet to spend a transfer fee this season, Edun on loan looks like the best that supporters can hope for.

Bashir Humphreys

Left-footed Chelsea defender Bashir Humphreys is on the radar of a number of Championship and League One clubs this month, as per Football Insider.

Should the Blues decide that the 19-year-old is ready for regular second tier action, then there may not be too much that the Addicks can do, but they should certainly be throwing their hat in the ring to take Humphreys on loan.

The lack of a left-footed centre-back hinders the balance of the side in possession, particularly in deploying a three at the back formation, with Dean Holden looking very flexible between systems so far at the helm.

Charlton have had a positive influence on the careers of Conor Gallagher and Jay DaSilva, in loan spells from Chelsea, and may be able to convince the Blues they can have a similar impact with Humphreys.

These two signings would hypothetically be the club's fourth and fifth loan additions of the season.
