Sheffield United are interested in re-singing Jamal Blackman this summer, as Chris Wilder looks to bolster his goalkeeping options ahead of next season.

Blackman spent the 2017/18 campaign on-loan at Bramall Lane, and according to the Sheffield Star, the Blades are keen to strike another deal with Chelsea to bring the goalkeeper back to South Yorkshire.

The 24-year-old impressed during his spell in the Sky Bet Championship, making 33 appearances across all competitions, including 31 in the league.

Blackman was Wilder’s first choice for much of the season, with the Chelsea loanee preferred to Simon Moore and Jake Eastwood.

The Blades - who finished 10th in the table on their return to the Sky Bet Championship - are keen to recruit a goalkeeper this summer, with Blackman one man on their radar.

However, Wilder told the Star that whilst Blackman was an option, they are keeping their options open and are identifying other targets.

The 50-year-old said: “We are keeping our options open, as we always do, we obviously need to add another goalkeeper to our ranks.”

Wilder’s focused has switched to the summer transfer window, after agreeing a contract extension at Bramall Lane.

The Sheffield United boss put speculation surrounding his future to bed earlier this week by agreeing a 12-month contract extension, which will keep him tied down until the summer of 2021.

The Verdict

Sheffield United need to add another goalkeeper to their squad, and after such an impressive season, Blackman is the obvious candidate to fill a key position.

Wilder will want to keep some consistency to his playing squad, which is why Blackman will be targeted.

The goalkeeper will be used to the surroundings and his potential new teammates.

His addition would be fairly risk-free.
