Sheffield United have seen Chelsea apparently name their price for a permanent deal for goalkeeper Jamal Blackman.

Indeed, according to today's printed edition of the Mirror, the Blues want £1.5m for the goalkeeper to make his move permanent from Stamford Bridge to Bramall Lane and it remains to be seen if the Blades want to pay that.

24-year-old Blackman has been a good stopper for them this season with him helping form a decent defence that has seen the Red and White Wizards challenge for the play-off places.

Certainly, he's likely done enough to warrant being kept on next year at the club but the fee is certainly significant and it just goes to show the kind of power Chelsea have.

Even so, getting a new goalkeeper in that can settle quickly and do well can be a hard ask - particularly in the Championship - and so you could imagine the Blades being willing to fork out the money.

Blackman does have the potential to become a more than solid goalkeeper and that is perhaps what will sway the Yorkshire side most when they weigh up a move in the summer.

The Verdict

It's certainly a significant amount of money for the Blades to spend when you consider most of their deals in recent years have been for far less amounts.

Even so, they know that to get where they want to be they need to start splashing out more cash and if Blackman keeps improving it could prove to be a shrewd deal.
