Sheffield Wednesday have endured a testing start to the Sky Bet Championship, with Carlos Carvalhal under growing pressure at Hillsborough after three defeats in their last four fixtures in the league.

The likelihood is that Wednesday will look to strengthen their already talented squad in the January transfer window, with the opening months showing us that Carvalhal’s squad is not strong enough for an assault on automatic promotion at this current time.

Here at FLW, we believe that Wednesday should look to youth in the New Year, with hope that a fearless approach helps lift the intensity that currently surrounds Hillsborough. One player we would like to see the Owls sign on-loan is Chelsea youngster, Luke McCormick.

There is plenty of excitement about McCormick, 18, who is excelling for Chelsea’s under-23s at this current time, having scored four goals and added one assist from his nine appearances across all competitions this season.

Midfield is an area where Wednesday struggle to add goals from, and McCormick is a player who brings a goalscoring threat. The Owls have previously moved to sign a player from Chelsea’s academy, when they brought Sam Hutchinson to Hillsborough in 2014.

Hutchinson initially joined the Owls on-loan, before making that move permanent. Wednesday could look to take a similar route with McCormick, who is only contracted at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2019.

A loan spell in the Championship could hand the 18-year-old some much-needed first-team experience, whilst Wednesday could also benefit from an extremely talented midfielder, who could make enough of an impact to lift the pressure on Carvalhal.
