Derby County target Tammy Abraham would prefer to stay in the Premier League, according to reliable journalist Alan Nixon.

Chelsea will allow their starlet Abraham to leave on loan but his preference would be a Premier League loan move again, despite Derby's interest.

Given that Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is the new manager of Derby, the Rams have been linked with a number of Chelsea's talented young players on loan deals.

Abraham is highly regarded at the West London club, despite a difficult season at Swansea City on loan.

The 20-year-old netted eight goals in 39 games in all competitions for the Swans, but lost his starting place later in the season.

The twice-capped England international, who stands at 6ft 3in tall, impressed last time in the Championship, scoring 26 goals in 48 games for Bristol City during a season-long loan spell in 2016/17.

Derby are still hoping to capture Abraham but face a battle as he would favour a move to another Premier League side.

The Verdict

Now back with England's under-21 side, the young striker needs to make a sensible career move this summer.

Although moving to Derby and the Championship might initially seem like a step down for him, it could benefit his career in the long run.

Abraham would be a superb addition for Derby and if they could capture him on loan, they can expect to compete right at the top of the division.
