Sky Bet Championship side Wigan Athletic are interested in signing Chelsea defender Matt Miazga on loan next season, according to reports from reliable journalist Alan Nixon.

The 23-year old has been a solid figure for current division strugglers Reading, with the Royals fighting for their lives at the bottom end of the league table.

The United States of America international, who has been capped 11 times by the national side, signed for Chelsea from New York Red Bulls in 2016 for a reported fee of £3.5million, but has since made just two starts in the Premier League for the Blues.

And news has now surfaced from Nixon, that after an impressive spell at the Madesjki Stadium thus far, the towering defender is alerting interest from fellow Championship strugglers Wigan Athletic, who are reportedly keen on signing the centre-half on loan next season.

The Latics already have a player on from Chelsea who is hugely impressing this season in Reece James, and after a successful loan spell thus far, the Blues may see Paul Cook as the perfect manager to loan players to.

The Verdict

This is a really interesting development, although it is one that I can definitely see happening.

Miazga has really impressed me since signing for Reading - he is a strong, tall, powerful defender who bullies attackers, and is exactly what Wigan need.

After James' successful loan spell, Chelsea will know that Wigan give youth a chance, and Miazga could be the perfect signing for the Latics next season, if they stay up this season.
