Chelsea are rivalling Spanish giants Atletico Madrid to the potential signing of Stoke City youngster Mohamed Sankoh according to a report from Goal.

Sankoh is yet to make a senior appearance for Stoke City, who are struggling in the Championship at this moment in time.

The Potters are currently sat 17th in the second tier standings, and will know that they have to be at their best heading into the final nine games of this year's campaign.

But the youngster has caught the eye with a number of impressive performances for Stoke's Under-18s side this season. He has nine goals and nine assists to his name so far this term, with recent off-the-field events calling a halt to fixtures across the UK, with no scheduled return date being finalised as of yet.

The report from Goal claims that the 16-year-old has already held talks with both Chelsea and Atletico Madrid over a potential move, although it remains to be seen as to which club is leading the race to land his signature.

Sankoh only signed for Stoke back in 2018 from Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam, and has also recently won the European Under-17s Championships with the Netherlands, so he's clearly a player with a bright future ahead of him.

The Verdict:

He's clearly a bright prospect.

You don't just attract transfer interest from the likes of Chelsea and Atletico Madrid by chance, and it's a credit to Sankoh for his strong performances for the Stoke Under-18s side this term.

Given that he's already held talks with both clubs, it seems as though he's heading for the exit door at Stoke City, although it remains to be seen which club will land his signature heading towards the summer.

Will Stoke City let regret letting him go so early into his career? I think so.
