Chelsea hero Didier Drogba speaks out amid Aston Villa links

Veteran striker Didier Drogba has rubbished claims that he is on the verge of making a shock move to Aston Villa amid speculation caused by Aston Villa’s owner Tony Xia, according to Sky Sports.

In one of Tony Xia’s unusual question and answer sessions on Twitter, Xia claimed that Aston Villa were in the market for a ‘world class striker’.

The world class striker was initially understood to be former Chelsea and current Montreal Impact striker Didier Drogba, with reports that he had flown into Birmingham to discuss a short-term deal.

However, Drogba himself took to Twitter to dismiss the claims as his focused remained solely on MLS side Montreal Impact with the Ivorian stating that he had no intention of being reunited with Roberto Di Matteo, who he had Champions League success with at Chelsea in 2012.

Following Drogba’s dismissal of Aston Villa, it has now been understood that the world class striker that Tony Xia was referring to was in fact Hull City’s Abel Hernandez who has been linked continuously with Aston Villa over the past few weeks.

Aston Villa fans, what do you make of the news? Would you have liked to see Didier Drogba join Villa? Do you think he would have been a success? Is he the calibre of striker that can take Aston Villa to another level? Would you be happy with Abel Hernandez? Is he what Villa needs to gain promotion?
