Bristol City are close to completing a deal to sign Chelsea defender, Tomas Kalas on a permanent transfer ahead of the new season.

West London Sport have revealed that Kalas is set to sign for a fee believed to be in the region of £8m for Lee Johnson's side.

Kalas spent last season on loan with the Robins, and has seemingly made a good impression on the Bristol City boss, who has wasted no time in securing his services on a permanent basis.

In total, the Czech international made 38 league appearances as Bristol City narrowly missed out on a top six finish in the Championship.

The Robins will be hoping that Kalas can add something to their squad in the new season, and they'll be keen to see him justify the hefty price tag that they've paid to strike a deal with Chelsea.

It would bring an end to Kalas' spell at Stamford Bridge, where he has made just four appearances for the Blues since signing for them back in 2010.

Bristol City are evidently wanting to conduct their transfer business at the earliest of opportunities, with Jay Dasilva, Sammie Szmodics and Daniel Bentley all signing for the Robins.

Supporters will certainly be confident of finishing inside the top six in next year's campaign, especially if the new additions to Johnson's squad can settle into life at Ashton Gate.

The Verdict:

This is a fantastic bit of business by Bristol City if they can get this deal over the line.

Kalas has been key to their success in recent months and I think it's a real coup for Robins to strike a deal with Chelsea for his services on a permanent basis.

He's a player that should be playing in the Premier League in my opinion, and he could be doing that in the future, as Bristol City will fancy their chances of winning promotion next season.
