Premier League Champions Chelsea and Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace are considering making a shock move for Reading centre-back Michael Hector, according to HITC Sport.
The 23-year-old was a superstar for the Royals last year and was nominated for player of the season at the club, after making 49 appearances last year and particularly impressing in the FA Cup semi final against Arsenal, keeping the Gunners at bay.
Arsenal were linked with a move for him at the beginning of the window, but following a new contract for the Jamaican international, their interest died.
Crystal Palace have been linked with him over the past few weeks, but now Chelsea have made a shock move to try and sign him, despite the new deal for the defender.
Royals boss Steve Clarke knows Jose Mourinho very well, but may have to deny him his man despite Chelsea giving the Berkshire club Lucas Piazon on loan for the season yesterday.
Reading currently sit in 13th place in the Sky Bet Championship, having won one game, drawing three, and losing one – and it would undoubtedly be a surprise to see Hector depart the Madejski Stadium in this window.
