Reading can now look forward to their final Championship match against Birmingham City safe in the knowledge that their second-tier place is safe for next season.

The Royals secured their safety last Monday when they held West Bromwich Albion to a goalless draw, with manager Jose Manuel Gomes steadying the ship at the Madejski Stadium in an improved second half of the season.

However, it has now emerged that the Berkshire club have failed to pay their players full wages this month, according to journalist Matt Barlow.

Reading's Chinese owners have reportedly claimed the delay is down to an administrative glitch due to Bank Holiday in Hong Kong, while they have promised to pay the remainder of the wages within 24 hours.

Reading are owned by Dai Yongge and Xiu Lu Dai who purchsed a 75% stake in the club in May 2017.

The news story prompted varied reactions from Reading fans on social media, with many claiming this latest update should not be of much concern to Royals' fans.
