Preston North End have confirmed the departure of Chris Maxwell who has been recalled from Hibernian to have his contract cancelled by mutual consent.

Maxwell had fallen out of favour in recent seasons under Alex Neil after the rise of Declan Rudd to the first team, which led to a lack of playing time for him. His last appearance for the Lilywhites came in early November of 2018 in a 1-1 with Ipswich Town in which he was sent off for a second bookable offence.

He was sent out on loan at the start of this season to Scottish Premier League side Hibernian but didn’t make a consistent impact at Easter Road, seeing him recalled from his loan in order to seal a free transfer elsewhere upon the expiry of his contract.

It has been reported that Maxwell is on the verge of joining Preston’s local rivals Blackpool in League One to help them towards a play-off push in the back end of the season. Most recently, Football Insider reported that Maxwell had agreed a deal to sign for the Tangerines and end a three-and-a-half-year spell at Deepdale this month. He has edged closer to that after cutting ties with the Championship club today.

The club confirmed the ‘keeper’s departure and wished him well for the future, so here, we take a look at how fans reacted to the confirmation...
