Sheffield United announced their return to the Championship's automatic promotion race on Wednesday night, rising to within a point of the top-two.

Chris Wilder's side saw off fellow promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough 1-0 at Bramall Lane to put the pressure on second-placed Norwich City after their 3-1 loss to Preston North End.

The Blades were the better side for the majority of the match, but struggled to break through a rigid Boro back line but eventually managed it when Richard Stearman headed home from a brilliant Oliver Norwood free-kick just after the hour.

Daniel Ayala was shown a red card soon after, picking up a second yellow card inside seven minutes for a rash and needless tackle on the edge of his own area, to kill off any hope of a Boro come back.

It was a well-deserved win for the Blades, but Tony Pulis was not too happy with the goal, feeling Stearman committed a foul in the process of heading past Darren Randolph.

Unsurprisingly, it was not an opinion shared with the Bramall Lane faithful...
