West Bromwich Albion shocked the wider football public when parting company with manager and former player Darren Moore back on March 9th.

Placed fourth in the EFL Championship at the time of Moore's sacking, caretaker manager James Shan has overseen two consecutive victories and clean sheets since the 44-year-old's departure.

Still lodged in fourth and six points off Leeds United above them, Slavisa Jokanovic, Alex Neil and David Wagner have all been linked with the Baggies hotseat over the past week or so.

All having earned promotion from the EFL Championship to the Premier League in previous years, these names appear more glamorous but shouldn't West Bromwich Albion be sticking again, rather than twisting?

First joining West Bromwich Albion in a coaching capacity back in 2006, James Shan knows The Hawthorns side inside out, something all the aforementioned names don't for starters.

Moreover, prising Alex Neil away from fellow promotion chasing side Preston North End would be an awfully tall order this late into the season.

Elsewhere, despite David Wagner's being jobless, his contractual agreement with Huddersfield Town means West Bromwich Albion would have to stump up compensation to appoint him right now.

As for Slavisa Jokanovic, he's got both Watford and Fulham out of the EFL Championship before but is there really any genuine certainty that he could do the same with the Baggies at the third attempt?

James Shan's unbeaten temporary stint with a West Bromwich Albion side who must've been surprised by Darren Moore's instant sacking has been impressive. If it's not broke, why fix it this late in the season?

We spoke to a handful of West Bromwich Albion supporters on the situation...

Tony Farmer

"So rather than giving the new coach the two week window to find his feet we opt to bring in someone with six weeks of the season left.

"We will have wasted 3 weeks - dosen't stack up."

Bomber's Boots

"Give it Shan to the end of the season and bring someone in during the summer.

"No pressure then and we'll know what division we are in."

The Black Lodge

"No surprise Preston won’t want to release Neil.

And I am not sure he would want to leave at this stage, anyway."

Dan Barnett

"Would be happy for Shan to take charge for the rest of the season if we were guaranteed a new manager begin work from the final whistle of the season.

"Because promoted or not we are going to need it! For me Jokanovic still seems the best option but wouldn't say no Neil."
