Birmingham City’s Che Adams has praised Garry Monk and his coaching staff, insisting it is obvious that everyone at St Andrew’s is moving in the same direction.

It’s been a frustrating start to the season for Birmingham, who had to wait until their ninth Championship fixture of the campaign for their first victory.

After drawing six of the first eight, Birmingham’s first three-point haul came at Elland Road on Saturday, when two Adams goals secured a 2-1 victory over Leeds United.

Adams has now praised Monk and his coaching staff, telling the Birmingham Mail: “The gaffer has been amazing - and his coaching staff, everyone is together and we are moving in one direction together, I think the fans can see that.

“You know the Championship, you never know how results are going to go. It’s time to kick on for us now.”

Birmingham will be looking to build on their first victory of the season at the weekend, when they return to St Andrew’s.

Monk’s side welcome Ipswich Town to the Midlands, with Saturday’s opponents the only team in the Championship without a victory to their name this season.

Following that clash with Ipswich, Birmingham head to Brentford, before again returning to St Andrew’s prior to October’s international break to take on Rotherham United.

The Verdict

Monk will have been key to keeping spirits high in Birmingham’s camp after a tough start.

Birmingham were playing well, but things weren’t going their way, which will have been frustrating.

Monk has guided his side to victory, but now, they must start pushing up the table and building on that win.

The influence of the manager will be key to doing that.
