Jamie Ward is on loan at Charlton Athletic from Championship outfit Nottingham Forest.

The Forest forward was an outcast in Aitor Karanka’s side so sought a move down the footballing ladder to League One hopefuls Charlton, and so far his decision is paying off.

Last season was one to forget for Ward, who featured just eight times for the Reds before being sent out on loan, where he also fell out of favour as Cardiff City pushed for promotion.

Now, dropping down a league has proved to be a wise decision and Charlton fans will be calling for their club to make his deal permanent as soon as they can.

The 32-year-old shook off a few injury woes at the start of the season and is now pushing for a first team spot.

He played a big part for Lee Bowyer’s side in their win over Barnsley last Saturday, showcasing his class against one of League One's stronger sides.

The Northern Ireland international is enjoying his spell at The Valley, so Bowyer will be keen to tie him down to a permanent deal, before other clubs swoop for him.

Charlton have been in or around the play-offs for the most part of this season, and currently sit 11th after their score draw with Oxford United on Tuesday night.

The Addicks have their eye on promotion, and Ward could form a big part of that, using his talents and experience to help Bowyer’s men drive forward into the play-off spots.

Ward’s loan deal ends in January as it stands, and to make his deal permanent would be pleasing for all parties concerned, particularly Charlton.
