Lee Bowyer has stated that he is disappointed that Charlton couldn’t keep Conor Gallagher due to the player improving throughout his stay at the club.
The midfielder was recalled last week, and has now joined Swansea who are competing for a place in the Championship top six in this current campaign.
Gallagher had been a great asset to the Addicks this season and his engine in the midfield is an admired trait amongst Championship sides.
He was able to net six goals during his stay, as well as become a somewhat senior player throughout numerous injury problems that Charlton suffered.
Bowyer has expressed that as the player was improving at the club, it makes it even more disappointing that Charlton couldn’t keep him and develop him even more.
Talking to London News Online, Bowyer said: “Conor came in and improved. We’ve given him the platform to build his career. He was playing for the U23s but this is what we do – we bring in young players and help clubs develop them. They are at a certain level when we come in and then we help and improve them.
“They become better players – that’s just the facts.
“That’s what we do. That’s why I’m disappointed we couldn’t keep Conor for the season because we are starting to get players back and he’d have kicked on again.”

Gallagher has been, on his day, one of the best Championship midfielders this season. He’s had a lot of game time at Charlton and it’s only improved him throughout the campaign.
Swansea now have a very good loan signing on their hands but it’s vital that they develop him in the correct manner and make sure that he is played in the correct positions.
Steve Cooper is very good with the younger players so it shouldn’t be too much of a problem for the Swans, it’s harsh on Charlton but Chelsea clearly wanted him fighting for promotion.
