According to Football Insider, Charlton have tabled a new loan bid for Rangers youngster Greg Docherty.
This comes after talks to join League One side Sunderland stalled on Monday. Now the Addicks have swooped in and are emerging as front-runners in the race to sign the midfielder.
Docherty was excellent during a loan spell at Shrewsbury last season where he managed to net ten goals and assist his team-mates 11 times. Considering he’s just 23-years-old, he’s still in need of game time in order to develop properly.
He has hardly played for Rangers this season, and Steven Gerrard has now sanctioned the decision to allow the midfielder to go out on loan and gain some valuable playing time.
Charlton are in desperate need for new players as Lee Bowyer’s side has suffered a number of key injuries to their squad this season. Docherty would provide a versatile option.

This would be a very good signing for Charlton and Lee Bowyer, and he would be in to try and replace the recently recalled Conor Gallagher. If they can get him in then it would definitely help their creativity in the midfield.
The Addicks need more players in as soon as possible, and with Docherty being a loan move there wouldn’t be too much to agree apart from certain playing clauses.
It would be a good addition, and one that is only going to help them steer clear of any potential relegation battle that they may face this season.
