Charlton transfer round-up: Pearce, Aribo, Lameiras…

Charlton Athletic’s future is set to be determined off the field this week, with Lee Bowyer still without a new contract amidst ongoing takeover talks.

It’s a crucial period in the Addicks’ history, one made possible by their Wembley heroics of a couple of weeks ago. They came back from 1-0 down in the play-off final to beat Sunderland 2-1 and earn the right to compete once again in the second tier.

With all of the off-field commotion, it’s a testament to the ability of manager Lee Bowyer to deflect the attention from his players and keep them focused on the task in hand. If things come through this week, they could be set for a bright future.

The world doesn’t stop for situations to be resolved though and Charlton have been linked with moves for players, as well as one of their own looking likely to leave. We start our round-up with the exciting 23-year-old seemingly set for departure.

Joe Aribo

Aribo was a key component of their promotion, but the 23-year-old is in high demand and likely to leave the club this summer.

He’s been holding talks with Rangers, but Premier League Southampton have also been reportedly interested in the midfielder.

With both goals and assists in his game, it’s likely he’ll be playing top-flight football somewhere this coming season.

Ben Alnwick

Their promotion push could have been derailed in January as loan keeper Jed Steer got recalled by Aston Villa, leaving second-choice Dillon Phillips in the sticks. They moved to secure the loan services of Chris Maxwell, but Phillips excelled and held on to his spot.

It’s reported that they’re back in the market for a stopper to complement their current offering, with Bolton keeper Ben Alnwick top of the list.

The Trotters suffered relegation to League One and Alnwick is one attracting lots of interest, with Huddersfield and Charlton also thought to be in the hunt.

Ruben Lameiras

The Plymouth man has recently turned down the chance to move to Europa League qualifiers CSKA Sofia and is now attracting interest from both Swansea City as well as the Addicks.

The former Spurs trainee is out of contract at Home Park and came out of Argyle’s relegation season with his head held high.

Jason Pearce

31-year-old Pearce could be on his way out of the Valley after interest from a host of League One clubs.

Portsmouth, Oxford and Sunderland are all being linked with a move for the defender, who made 28 appearances last season as the Addicks pushed for promotion.
