Charlton midfielder Jonny Williams has expressed his relief after making his long-awaited return from injury during the 1-0 defeat against West Brom in the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.
Kenneth Zohore netted the first-half winner for the Baggies as they booked their place in the fourth-round draw with a narrow victory at The Valley, but Charlton will view Williams’ injury comeback as one of the key positives from the match.
Williams had not featured for Lee Bowyer’s side since suffering a knee injury during Charlton’s 3-0 win over Derby back in October, but he is now back in contention for the South London side following more than two months on the sidelines.
The 26-year-old’s absence had formed part of Charlton’s recent injury crisis, with more than 10 first-team players recently sidelined for the Addicks, and this has seen the club claim just one victory in their last 15 matches.
However, Williams’ return to the first-team fold suggests the situation is starting to improve for Bowyer’s side, and the Wales international has now taken to Instagram to react to his eventual comeback.

Williams’ appearance against West Brom means he has now made 13 showings in Charlton’s midfield so far this campaign, during which time he has registered five assists for the Addicks.
Charlton may have crashed out of the FA Cup following their 1-0 loss to West Brom, but the return of Williams will come as a huge boost for the South Londoners given his importance to the side.
The Addicks have faced particular problems in the centre of the park in recent weeks, and the absence of Williams has been a key factor in this given, with Bowyer’s side severely missing his invention from his attacking midfield role.
The fact he is now back in contention acts as further evidence that Charlton’s injury crisis is slowly coming to an end, and there can be no doubt that Williams will add significant improvement to the side when he is fully fit.
