Charlton Athletic striker Josh Parker is relishing the chance to show what he can do against Doncaster Rovers this Friday, believing the cauldron of noise at the Valley will swing the tie in their direction.

They lead 2-1 from the away leg and Parker, who joined in January on a six-month contract from Gillingham, found himself handed a rare start for the Addicks.

He's played 10 league matches for Lee Bowyer's side, but has started just three times since the switch. He told cafc.co.uk that he expects the superb home support to help push the Addicks on to a Wembley showdown with either Sunderland or Charlton.

"I’m really excited. As we said before, it’s hard to come here, but for them to come to The Valley is a whole different kettle of fish.

'They wont be looking forward to that, they’re behind so they’re going to have to come and chase the game. I think that benefits us because we’re so comfortable on the ball that we’ll probably just end up picking them off.

"We’ve seen what happened in the Champions League over the last few days! So two or three nil doesn’t make a difference, but our tasks remain the same. We’ll keep the ball, we’ll work hard and when we do those two things we win games. Simple as that."

28-year-old Parker began his career in 2009 at QPR, but struggled to find regular football until he moved to Gillingham in 2017.

He has just 87 career starts to his name and will be looking to make up for lost time, if he can secure new terms during the summer.

The Verdict

The Valley will be an intimidating place for Doncaster and it's going to be incredibly tough for them to get a result.

Charlton have won eight of their last nine matches and are the form team in the play-off race.

As for Parker, he's out of contract and if he's to avoid a spell in non-league, which is what happened after he left Aberdeen, then he's going to want to impress in the last fixture or two this season.
