Charlton Athletic midfielder Jake Forster-Caskey has been given the opportunity to explore the interest of other clubs and will be allowed to leave if a move suits all parties, according to London News Online.

The League One outfit triggered the 12-month extension in Forster-Caskey's deal in May but he faces a battle for opportunities under new coach Ben Garner.

With Conor McGrandles joining an already congested midfield unit, the 28-year-old may have to leave the Valley to guarantee regular football.

London News Online has reported that there is interest in Forster-Caskey this summer and that the Addicks are letting him explore his options.

It is said that the south London club are open to letting him depart but only if the move suits all parties involved.

Forster-Caskey joined Charlton from Brighton in 2017 and has made 115 appearances since, with his contributions limited by injuries.

The midfielder returned to action in April after an extended period on the sideline due to another ACL issue.

The Verdict

Charlton's stance will likely be a decisive one amongst the club's fanbase.

When he's been fit and firing, Forster-Caskey has been a real asset for the Addicks – with his brilliant performances in the 2017/18 and 2020/21 campaigns a joy to watch – but injuries have hampered his five years at the club.

It appears the feeling is that the 28-year-old may see limited game time under the new manager and in that sense it makes sense to capitalise on the interest in him.

Getting him off their wage bill and perhaps receiving a fee should help Garner continue to shape the squad.
